About
The School
We are very
proud of our school, its staff and its facilities. We have computers
in each class room as well as a designated computer room giving
a ratio of 1 computer per 1.5 students. Our classrooms are of a
good size and are well resourced. We also have an art & technology
room and a open space drama room for drama, music, meetings and
assemblies. All rooms are air conditioned. We have a full and varied
curriculum, with fitness and healthy eating a priority. Spanish
is our LOTE (Language other than English) taught and Maths is the
curriculum focus subject this year.
The school is
on three levels in a scenic location overlooking the sea. The top
two levels have recently been up graded with new grassed area, swing
area and new playground and the bottom level is soon to be resurfaced
and remarked for Basketball and Netball. We also have a great school
oval across the road from the school.
School Values
are a big focal point and our school along with Pt. Vincent and
Edithburgh schools are all part of a combined “Values”
project.
We have 4 Student
Governance groups who meet once a week. All students belong to one
of the groups – Be Active, Community/Enterprise, Environment
or PR /Special Events.
We offer OSHC
(Out of School Hours Care) Monday to Friday from after school to
6pm and Active After School sessions one night after school. We
also have a CPS worker on staff and music tuition is also offered
either on site or at Minlaton or Yorketown. The Stansbury Kindergarten
operates on our campus and there is playgroup for preschoolers on
Monday mornings.
We also have
a big focus on environmental issues. We were one of the first schools
to have solar panels installed back in 2001 from which we feed electricity
back into the grid and a rain water collection system which services
our toilet blocks and is also used to water the top level playing
field. We have been part of KESAB’s Tidy Towns since 1989
winning at least one award every year since then, with 24 award
plaques proudly displayed in our front office.
We
have strong ties with the community with visits to the local Home
for the Aged , the local Tidy Towns group and local volunteers regularly
coming to school either as LAP (Learning Assistance Program) helpers,
hearing reading or working on projects with the children.
